Formal Component-Based Semantics

One of the proposed solutions for improving the scalability of semantics of programming languages is Component-Based Semantics, introduced by Peter D. Mosses. It is expected that this framework can also be used effectively for modular meta theoretic reasoning. This paper presents a formalization of Component-Based Semantics in the theorem prover COQ. It is based on Modular SOS, a variant of SOS...

Executable Operational Semantics of Solidity

Bitcoin has attracted everyone’s attention and interest recently. Ethereum (ETH), a second generation cryptocurrency, extends Bitcoin’s design by offering a Turing-complete programming language called Solidity to develop smart contracts. Smart contracts allow creditable execution of contracts on EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) without third parties. Developing correct smart contracts is challeng...

Executable Semantics for Compensating CSP

Compensation is an error recovery mechanism for long-running transactions. Compensating CSP is a variant of the CSP process algebra with constructs for orchestration of compensations. We present a simple operational semantics for Compensating CSP and outline an encoding of this semantics in Prolog. This provides a basis for implementation and model checking of the language.

An Executable Semantics for CompCert C

CompCert is a C compiler developed by Leroy et al, the majority of which is formalised and verified in the Coq proof assistant. The correctness theorem is defined in terms of a semantics for the ‘CompCert C’ language, but how can we gain faith in those semantics? We explore one approach: building an equivalent executable semantics that we can check test suites of code against. Flaws in a compil...
